Data Governance FAQs

Data governance and MDM are two complementary disciplines, and organizations need to both intentionally govern and manage their enterprise data to truly deliver business value.

Data governance is a set of principles and practices that aim to ensure enterprise data meets prescribed quality, access and security standards. This includes discovering what data you have across the enterprise, defining policies or standards to promote data quality and identifying data quality issues.

MDM, on the other hand, is the technology, tools and processes that work across the enterprise to ensure the coordination of master data — the core data within the enterprise that describes objects around which business is conducted. MDM, then, enforces the policies and standards defined by data governance.

Yes, Profisee co-developed the first-ever native MDM integration with Microsoft Purview, helping Purview customers easily enforce data governance rules and maximize the value of their data in Azure. With no functional overlaps, but highly complementary capabilities, Microsoft Purview and Profisee MDM are an essential foundation of data management.

Profisee also supports open integration standards and can easily connect to existing data catalog, data glossary and metadata management platforms. Profisee customers have integrated data from Alation, Collibra and more in their MDM implementation.

Yes, Profisee supports data validation rules in its data quality engine using data quality rule operators.

Profisee’s data quality expression editor is intuitive and configurable, allowing data stewards to construct advanced qualifiers that meet their unique requirements easily. A full list of support validation and assignment rule operators are available in the Profisee Platform documentation available to customers.

Profisee MDM employs a sophisticated security model where individual accounts and teams can be configured for specific data access rights down to the granular level. This includes control over which data columns users can access, as well as user grouping and access management aligned with Azure Active Directory.

Profisee lets users configure data quality rules to enhance and identify where data quality is poor. In Profisee, you can set up validation rules to determine where source data is poor as well as assignment rules to assign values to attributes enriching data. Profisee can also be integrated with third-party services for data & address verification to further validate and enrich enterprise data.
